I have an old mid 19th c sxs percussion shotgun that is in working condition except I have been told by a local smith the bores are not shootable. I think the previous owner may have shot it anyway, as the npples are new and I know the guy was an avid shotgunner. I have decided not to shoot it. (chicken).

The bores are solid but dark. Barrels outside are pitted at the breach but still thick and sound all the way to the muzzle. The back action locks and other parts are modestly decorated with some simple engraving. Everything is strong, tight and functioning. The stock is wonderful with checkering at the wrist. There is one small repair on the forearm. Ramrod and everything is original but the nipples.

This is a 19th C low-end Belgium import. but its a neat gun and I think it would be a nifty gun to carry at a American Civil War Reenactment. I suspect it would do fine shooting just powder. Maybe a cavalryman. Based upon the barrel markings I think its age is somewhere between 1850 and 1870s give or take. It would make a wonderful addition to someones collection. I have plenty of pics and will email them to whomever is interested. email me at [email protected]

I have taken good care of it and had fun handling it but its time to let her go to someone else that will maybe be able to enjoy it more than me.

I am flexible on price. After you see the pics make me an offer!! I aint looking to get rich on this deal.

thanks all

Ken

Hello Ken
I have an old SXS ML as well and I had the barrels magnafluxed to see if it was ok to shoot and it was so I have shoot it numerous times with 60 grs ff and 1 oz #8 shot

that is something you could do or if you do sell it the new owner could as well.

my gun is still for sale. Its more of a wall hanger than yours I am thinking. But it is a neat simple old piece that I wish could talk. These low end guns were main staples for farmers and regualr folk in the 19th C. Again, I'll send pics, and I will consider any offer.

With the right barrel set it would make for a solid shooter. The locks are really strong and the stock and other parts good too.

Ken
