Mick, Doug, et all, what's your opinion on the date of this revolver?

Way beyond my pay grade......but with the serial number you may be able to discover when it was manufactured on line.......

try this:
http://www.colt.com/Customer-Services/S ... ber-Lookup

A quick look...............1859 :D

According to Colt books, it has all of the proper markings.....except...the Colt Pat on the left side plate.
Colt site attributes the ser# to a 3rd Model Dragoon made in 1859.
About the only thing we haven't done yet is check the thread pitch on screws

It's a good shooter......stout loads produce good groups.

Thanks Doug! Dad and I are a bit confused about its age... After any others have had a chance to weigh in on it, Dad or I one will post the story on it. It's almost too good to be true! :-) Hopefully that 1859 date is right!

Howdy!

It looks like some of.... my work. :) :)

It could be legit, yes. But the condition with no/zero/zip/nada wear or age (except for a screw head or two raises an eyebrow.

I would be most curious in what the screw thread pitch and rifling has to say about it not be a clever 2nd or 3rd Generation.

What should the original threads be, and what measurement do the second and third gens have?
